By introducing art in different forms, Anton Smit wants to motivate , enrich and enlighten the people of Tshwane to elevate their soul, echo the enthusiasm displayed by the developers<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Thus embracing the symbolism of the main feature sculpture \u201c The Spirit of Tshwane”. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Someone once said: \u201cThe only earthly power that has any real meaning is the power to better the world <\/em><\/span>\u201c\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Anton identified specific pieces, plotting them in and outside the mall at dedicated points \u2013 an art route map is also made available for the public<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI hope to create a total new experience to residents, retailers and shoppers alike <\/span><\/em>making MM the art hub in Tshwane \u2013 \u201c <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

About the artist, Anton Smit<\/p>\n

\n

Born in Boksburg in August 1954, Anton entered his first sculpting exhibition at the age of sixteen and won first prize. Following successful exhibitions in White River, Nelspruit, Pretoria and Cape Town, Smit turned to sculpting full-time.<\/p>\n

\n

In 1990, international recognition came in the form of exhibitions in Rome and Milan, an invitation to exhibit in New York and Hong Kong, as well as a return exhibition in Italy in 1993. More exhibitions followed in Bonn, Washington, Singapore and Koln.<\/p>\n

His body of work comprises towering human figures, nudes, heads, masks, hands, angels, floating and stretching figures, warriors, as well as abstract works, sculpted out of steel, metal, stone and a unique iron and polymer cast mixture, as well as bronze.<\/p>\n

Anton\u2019s work is included in the permanent collections of the Pretoria Art Museum,\u00a0Rupert Museum<\/a>,\u00a0Graff\/Delaire Collection,<\/a>University of Pretoria Museums<\/a>\u00a0,\u00a0Century City Art Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n
